Wednesday the 19th around 22:55 hours, Lyco DPS dropped tones for a chimney fire in Armstrong Township bringing in Station 8 and Squad 5. Squad 5 responded with 4. Lyco DPS advised that the caller had an active fire in with flames shooting from the chimney. Due to tight area and inability to get Ladder 5 into this specific area, Chief 5 requested Ladder 20 to be added to the box. Squad 5 arrived to find the homeowner attempting to keep the fire in check with the homes green line. Squad 5 personnel disembarked, deployed the front bumper as a precautionary measure and went into investigative mode. Crews found an active fire in the hot box (Stove). Crews darkened the fire with a PW and removed the heat source. Tanker 8 arrived and positioned as a water source if needed and manpower sent forward. Ladder 20 arrived to back down the driveway and squeeze a position allowing them to extend the main for a stable ground to deploy chimney chains. Homeowner had a metal roof and due to safety of firefighter, the main would be more stable. Chains deployed, flue debris knocked down, chimney in normal working order. Engine 8 arrived and staged out on the hard road. Crews picked up and returned home.
