Shortly after 3pm, Lycoming County Department of Public Safety initiated the Working Box at 1723 Riverside Drive for smoke inside the structure. Captain 5 arrived first on scene and encountered normal conditions from the exterior. Captain knocked on the front door and was able to open the unlocked door to encounter a moderate smoke condition on the first floor. Captain notified DPS of the updated conditions. Engine 1 and Squad 5 (Career Staff) arrived simultaneously deploying a single handline thru the front door. Crews encountered a small fire in the basement that was quickly extinguished.
Chief 5 was on scene to investigate with Chief 8-1 when it was determined to be suspicious, and PSP Fire Marshal was requested to the scene.
An arrest has been made in connection with this fire.
