Station 5 was dispatched at 17:14 hours to the 1700 block of Riverside Dr for a working house fire. Squad 5-1 (City Career), Ladder 5, Car 5, Chief 5 all responded within 3 minutes of dispatch. Chief 5 arrived with a two and half story single family dwelling with smoke showing from the front door. Squad 5 arrived and the officer of the squad made entry with a PW. Ladder 5 arrived and crew deployed a 200 foot 1 3/4 line from the Squad and met up with the officer of the Squad. Crews found a trash bag filled with kids toys, books, and clothing sitting to close to the furnace in the basement. The fire had melted a water line above it creating its own sprinkler system and extinguishing hot spots. Crews soaked down the debris to fully snuff out the fire. Power was secured to the furnace, hot water heater, and Stove due to some minor damage a gas line, water line, and electrical line. Homeowners were going to stay with family members for the night and contact the proper repair company in the morning. Damage estimated at $1,000.00.
