Tonight, we teamed up with Montoursville, Loyalsock, Old Lycoming, and the City of Williamsport to do Run Ups on different address throughout the different municipalities to further train on predesignated arrival responsibilities. This focuses on First through Fifth due engine companies as well as first and second due special service companies.
Throughout the evening, we focused on establishing water supply, proper front and rear apparatus placement on each property, the tactical objectives of each running assignment, and the importance of calling out assignments while approaching, so every company arrives with a clear understanding of its role and responsibilities.
A special thank you goes out to the seven property owners who graciously allowed us to use their properties for these drills. Training at real locations provides the closest thing to real-world experience without an actual emergency. It allows crews to identify challenges, refine tactics, and learn from mistakes in a controlled environment; so when the next working fire occurs, those lessons have already been learned.
The investment in training today directly impacts the service we provide tomorrow. Nights like this strengthen our teamwork, improve our decision making, and ultimately make us more effective for the communities we serve.
During the training we did answer one call for service on W Mountain for the odor of gas inside. Crews arrived to find an odor and a malfunctioning mechanism within the stove. UGI responded as well.
