SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, PA — Firefighters from South Williamsport responded to an emergency call earlier today involving a large tree that had fallen, bringing down multiple utility lines. Upon arrival at the scene, units discovered the tree had completely snapped at its base, pulling down several power, cable, and telephone lines in the process.
Rescue 5 quickly established scene safety and managed traffic around the hazardous area. Chief 5 reported that service lines were severed from two residences, leaving them exposed and increasing the risk to the neighborhood.
Utility company PPL was promptly on site to begin mitigation efforts and safely restore the affected services. Following the utility company taking charge of the scene, Rescue 5 and other units returned to availability, ensuring the area was secure.
The South Williamsport Fire Department reminds residents to stay clear of downed wires and report any similar incidents to the authorities immediately.
